Fees & Appointments for Therapy & Counselling
Our Fees
The intention of our practice is to provide, ethical, professional and cost effective counselling and psychotherapy. Our fees for a 55 minute session with either of our psychotherapists range from $100 to $150. These fees normally reflect the experience and qualifications of the therapist. We are willing to offer a discount to someone who is having financially difficulties.
We charge the same amount for an individual therapy or couples therapy session. The fee is based on the session time and not on the number of people in the session. The fees we charge are equal to or less than the gap fee you would normally pay for traditional psychology or counselling after the Health Fund or Medicare rebate.
EFTPOS facilities are available at our practice and payment is required at the end of the consultation. You can pay by cash, cheque, debit or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). We use a fixed fee model which applies per session. We will occasionally negotiate your session fees where you can demonstrate a constraint in being able to afford the standard fee.
Please alert us at the earliest opportunity where the cost of therapy is becoming an issue. We do our best to work with you and help make therapy possible.
Appointments
We see most of our clients on weekdays during standard working hours. We also offer flexible appointment times which includes after-hours and weekend appointments. You do not require a referral from your GP.
A part of therapy is to agree a therapy plan that sets boundaries and expectations around time and money considerations. Since the dynamics of counselling, coaching and psychotherapy all benefit from regular sessions over a period of time, then the model of frequent sessions is commonly recommended. Over time the regular therapy or contact will have larger gaps between appointments.
If financial constraints exist, then as a general principle we recommend it is better to have regular sessions with a larger gap between appointments to accommodate your budget. For example, instead of fortnightly appointments it is better to attend monthly appointments than to cancel all appointments and not continue to have any at all. We also will look favourably upon a person who hits a bump in life such as temporary unemployment or sickness where income suffers. It is often at this time that support is most needed.
At some stage regular sessions cease and we become a resource in your life which you can contact as and when you need, come and check-in, and pick up with a therapist where you left off. We are then able to quickly engage and continue as we already know you, your history and issues.
