Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a little understood condition which has only in recent times started to gain common acceptance as a major mental health issue.
Our PTSD workshop in Perth explains what PTSD is and why it is likely to affect a number of persons in the community who remain undiagnosed due to the fact they or others may feel they have not been exposed to a significant enough trauma event to warrant having PTSD.
We explain an episode or longer term exposure to traumatic, stressful or threatening environments or objects, including people and animals, can trigger the onset of PTSD. We will assist course attendees in understanding the triggers and process of PTSD triggering their trauma re-enactments and other associated behaviours and symptoms, and why some people find they live more or less in an anxious state due to their PTSD.
Body Psychotherapy treats PTSD in a specific staged process inclusive of body and mind dimensions. This neuro-science informed workshop explains trauma from the latest bodymind neuroscience findings. We look at what strategies you can adopt to address the symptoms and actual PTSD trauma itself.
We will illustrate techniques that address issues such as:
- Down-regulating your nervous system when hyper-aroused
- Up regulating your nervous system when hypo-aroused or low energy
- Managing sleep
- Impulse management
- Disarming trauma re-enactment triggers
- Muscular reactions and tensions
- Confronting obsessions and fears
- Using your breath to manage your safe state
- Why and how to get grounded in present time
We will show how PTSD often creates secondary anxiety and depression and how your nervous system facilitates both conditions based on past tendencies and defences.
