Sally is a mother of two lively and lovely boys. It was through her positive experiences of having a doula at her births and how well her doula supported Sally and her husband that she decided to train as a doula so she could help women to have a beautiful experience. Sally is now a doula, doula trainer for Australian Doulas and child birth educator. She is also a trainee Birthing From Within Mentor. Sally is passionate about good support through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period, in order to make the transition into parenthood one to enjoy and not to endure. She loves educating women and her support person about birth choices and providing evidence based, unbiased information so that a woman and her partner are informed about their options. This is achieved by regular contact either by visit, email, text messages or phonecalls. On Birth Day she is there to support the birthing woman and her partner throughout labour. She does not interfere or take over from her partner but rather guides him/her to best support the labouring woman. She will provide continuity of care - especially if there is a shift change during your labour. Since training in 2008 it has become more obvious to Sally that the role of the father is just as important as the mother. Men are expected to attend the birth but arent prepared for such an event. For this reason Sally now co-facilitates Beer and Bubs sessions in Perth every month. Her experience as a doula includes: Birth centre birth, private and public hospital birth, VBAC, Hypnobirth, Caesarean birth (both epidural and general anaesthesia as well as planned caesarean birth with labour first), supporting women with gestational diabetes and supporting refugee women through Community Midwifery WA.
