Our Counsellors
Our counsellors are experienced psychotherapists in Perth who have worked with a wide range of mental health and relationship concerns over many years. You are not placed in a rigid programme. We listen carefully, understand your situation and work at a pace that suits you.
Our Counselling Services
Our counselling services are designed to be clear, collaborative and tailored to what you need, whether that is short term support around a specific issue or longer term therapy.
Individual counselling focuses on your personal concerns, such as anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, self esteem challenges and life transitions. Together we explore what is driving your reactions, work with both your thoughts and body responses, and develop practical strategies you can use at home, at work and in your relationships.
Relationship counselling supports couples who are arguing often, feeling distant, impacted by betrayal or struggling to communicate. We look at the patterns you are stuck in, help you understand each other’s perspectives and teach you ways to interrupt negative cycles. The goal is to build safer, more honest and more connected conversations.
Family counselling addresses tension between parents and children, co parenting after separation, blended family challenges and communication breakdowns across generations. Sessions provide a structured space where each person can be heard and respected. Together we develop clear agreements and practical changes that support healthier family dynamics at home.
Trauma counselling recognises that overwhelming experiences can leave lasting emotional and physical effects. We work gently and at your pace, using both body based and talk based approaches to process what has happened. Over time, this helps reduce symptoms and rebuild a sense of safety, control and confidence in daily life.
Grief counselling offers space to express sadness, anger, confusion or numbness after a loss, whether it is a death, relationship breakdown, health change, fertility loss or a shift in identity. We walk alongside you as you make sense of your experience. The focus is on honouring your grief while gradually re engaging with life.
Psychotherapy is helpful when you notice repeating patterns in relationships, work or self worth that do not shift with short term strategies. This longer term work explores your history, identity, defences and values to understand what sits underneath current struggles. The aim is deep, lasting change rather than quick fixes for one situation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most counselling sessions are 60 minutes long, with limited 90 or 120 minute appointments available for suitable cases. This gives enough time to settle, work and finish without feeling rushed.
Our fees are set to be similar to, or often lower than, the typical out of pocket gap many people pay after rebates elsewhere. Current fees are listed on our Fees page and confirmed with you before you book. If cost is a concern, you can discuss this openly when you first contact us.
You do not need a referral from a GP, psychiatrist or other health professional to see a counsellor at Energetics Institute.
You can contact us directly, ask questions and book a session when you are ready. Some clients choose to tell their GP they are in counselling so that care can be coordinated, but that is your choice, not a requirement.
Our counselling and psychotherapy services are private pay and are not claimed through Medicare or private health insurance.
As psychotherapists, we do not bulk bill and do not offer Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Care Plan, and our services are not eligible for private health rebates. We keep our fees at a level that is often similar to, or lower than, the usual gap people pay after rebates in other settings.
Most people start with weekly sessions so that trust can build and progress is consistent.
As you begin to feel more stable and confident using what you learn, you and your counsellor may decide to move to fortnightly or less frequent appointments. The right pattern depends on your needs, level of distress and practical circumstances, and can be adjusted over time.
Our cancellation policy is designed to respect your time, your counsellor’s time and other clients who may be waiting for appointments.
We ask for as much notice as possible if you need to change a booking. Late cancellations or non attendance may incur a fee, because that time has been set aside for you. Full details are provided when you book and are included in your confirmation information.
Yes. what you share in counselling is treated as private and confidential, within standard legal and ethical limits in Australia.
We do not disclose information about your sessions without your consent, unless there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or someone else, or we are required by law to provide information, such as through a court order. Your counsellor explains these limits at the start so you know where you stand.
Your first counselling session is a calm, structured conversation about what has brought you in and what you would like to change.
Your counsellor will ask about your current situation, relevant history and what you have already tried. You set the pace and do not have to talk about anything before you feel ready. Together you agree on initial goals and on how you will work together in future sessions.
You can request a specific counsellor if you already have someone in mind or you have been referred to a particular therapist.
If you are unsure who to see, we ask a few questions about your concerns and preferences and then recommend a suitable practitioner. If you later feel another counsellor within Energetics Institute might be a better fit, we are open to discussing a change.
Yes, we offer secure online counselling sessions for clients who cannot attend in person or who prefer to meet from home or another private space.
Online counselling can be helpful if you live outside Perth, travel frequently, have health or mobility challenges or simply find it easier to talk from your own environment. We can help you decide whether online or in person sessions are likely to suit you best when you enquire.
